Piano Lights – Light Up the Night

I can remember it like it was yesterday. As a youngster my parents would always give me lots of advice. I was like most kids and it would go in one ear and out the other. Every kid knows that when we are young we know more than our parents. Some of the advice was sound, like looking both ways as I would cross into traffic. I was told to slow down as I was riding my bicycle. My favorite not listened to piece of advice was not to read in dim lighting. I was told that I would go blind. It did not happen to me and I could see what I was working on just fine but I knew they were trying to do their best and look out for me. I now use some of their old advice on my own children and yes my kids will roll their eyes just like I did. As I get older it has become tougher to see in low light situations. Using proper lighting helps ease eye strain and makes it easier to read.
I have been playing piano most of my life. As an adult it is something I really enjoyed. I have been able to play several local shows and a few more distant a year. This past year I have noticed that in certain low light situations it has become tougher to see the sheet music. It has been harder to see smaller fonts. It very quickly caused fatigue and eye strain. I became tired and playing music was not as fun as it used to be. Reading in proper lighting is important. I have read that reading in low light will not alter your vision but I have noticed that it makes it harder to focus. Over time it can harm the eyes and affect someone’s eyesight. Investing in a piano lamp was the best decision I made for my musical career.
I purchased a clip on piano light for my piano. I notice that it helped my eyesight right away. It focused the light properly on the sheet music. It made it much easier to see and I notice that it helped eliminate the eye strain that I would usually get in a low light situation. With the new piano lamp I felt like I could play for hours. It made playing music fun again. I felt like the piano lamp helped me fight off father time a little longer. This was a good thing. In my research I notice that they were several different styles and choices of piano lights to choose from. As I have played in lots of locations around the country, I never knew what the lighting was going to be as every new location was different. The piano lamp would give as much or as little of light that I would need. It helped me see better in every venue.
Having proper lighting is nothing new but I will tell any my musician peers that are my age that we can fight off old tired eyes with a piano lamp. It will definitely help anyone see better and hopefully it will help any musician play better too!
