Las Vegas Western Theme Weddings

If you have always been into cowboys and horses, maybe a western theme wedding and reception is right for you. And for such a wedding, no place is better than Las Vegas. How do you set yours up so you do not need to hire a wedding planner? Here are ideas to help get you started.

Overall design. Most western theme venues in Las Vegas come complete with swinging saloon doors. You will also find wagon wheels around the room. They likewise provide catering services, and the staff is dressed in old west outfits. Enhance his look by adding personal effects, such as “wanted” posters with a picture of you and your spouse-to-be. Ask the venue manager if you can add props such as bales of straw at the reception hall to achieve a “barn” effect. If you have more time and a larger budget, why not add mock signage for a saloon, a general store, a western bank, a pony express office, and a jail?

Food. Most Las Vegas western-style reception venues serve good ol’ ribs, steaks, and fried chicken. Ask them to serve side orders such as macaroni and cheese, baked beans, corn and carrots, etc. If you don’t want a traditional wedding cake, why not serve pies instead?

Flowers. After the venue, the next thing you should decide on is flowers. Go for either bluebonnets (the flower of the State of Texas) or sego lilies (Utah). Dominant colors should be yellow orange, and red combined. Blues and greens are also common Western colors.

A cowboy hat can serve as the base for your centerpiece flowers. You can also use cowboy boots as vases! If your budget is limited, then use cheaper potted cacti instead. Lanterns or oil lamps could work, too.

Music. A player-piano would be great. Rent one complete with music scrolls. You can also hire a western singer (in a western get up). If you can stretch the budget, why not hire a square dance caller? Your guests will surely have fun dancing!

The Top Schools For Creative and Performing Arts in the US

Filed Under (Piano Lamp Articles) by pana193 on 29-03-2010

Most public schools and high schools in the United States are traditionally based with a curriculum that will prepare you for college. There are other schools, however, that focus one specialty such as creative and performing arts. This article will look into three such schools located in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. They have traditional classes as well as classes to enhance on the artistic talents of their students. SPCA in Cincinnati has been highlighted with a reality television series on MTV giving others a glimpse into what a school like this is like showing singers sitting at a piano with a piano lamp or piano lamps shining down on them as they prepare to perform in an all school talent show, for example.

The first school is the one mentioned above called SPCA which stands for the School of Performing and Creative Arts located in downtown Cincinnati. It is the oldest public arts school in the nation and the enrollment has increased by 60% over the past year after the airing of the show “Taking the Stage” showed what the school is all about on MTV. The show is like a real life Fame exploring the lives of different students pursuing their dreams of being a professional dancer, rapper or songwriter. A brand new facility and building will be opened for this public school for next year to house the 988 students in grades 4-12. Academics are as good as the arts here being noted as a Blue ribbon School in the past.

Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts has the mission to nurture all of the creative talents of their students while also giving them a solid college prep academic curriculum. The arts that are offered here are creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, vocal music and visual arts. In order to be accepted to CAPA you must have good grades from your previous school and go through an audition in the art area you want to major in. The famous singing group, Boyz II Men, all are alumni of the Philadelphia Arts school.

The Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School started in 1979 with just over 30 students and have grown throughout the years to now have students in grades 6-12 at the school studying a variety of arts programs. In 2003-2004, they moved into a new facility that has a large auditorium, a theatre, an art gallery, a television studio and spacious rehearsal areas for all of the various arts to practice in. This new building makes this school a step above many of the others in the area and because of that, the competition to be admitted to this school is very difficult.

There are over 350 arts schools in America, but just a handful of them have been nationally recognized for being some of the best including the ones described in this article. Kids are becoming more interested in arts schools today and the “Taking the Stage” show will only increase that interest.

Lighting Up a Beautiful Feature

If you are someone who plays the piano or any other instrument, you know how difficult it can be to try and practice playing your instruments just anywhere in the home. It is nice to have equipment from House of Troy that can sit in its very own room without any distractions or interruptions in the room. It is also very nice to have the room set up the way you like it with proper decorations and a comfortable area to play in. Some people like to make it as comfortable as possible, making it look like just another room in the house, but others like to make it as professional as possible with piano lights, room sound equipment, and several different gadgets to make the music playing experience even more exciting.

When playing music at home it can be very easy to be done for the day and to feel a little bit of boredom around other distractions and fun things to do, but if you can keep those things from bothering you, it can be very helpful. Having one room in your home set aside just for music can help immensely. It can be very helpful if this room has closed doors and if this room is simply shut off from the rest of the house. Without any random interruptions or distractions, students can learn a lot more when it comes to their music and much more can be completed in one day rather than if your instrument was with you in front of the television.

When decorating a music room, it is important to stick with the comfort level of the musician who will be using the room. Lots of bright colors, floral patterns, and comfortable chairs can change the mood of the room, making someone want to lay down for a nap rather than practice their instrument. Blacks, grays, and whites are all helpful and can still look very polished and decorative within a home. Again, it all depends on the comfort level of the musician and what they are into.

Many music teachers who teach out of their own home follow these same simple rules when it comes to others playing in their home. Making the room too personal can make it uncomfortable for others to sit in while making it too dry can be boring as well. The best piece to fill a music room is one black grand piano. The perfect vision of a music room is white walls, delicate hardwood floor and one black grand piano and nothing else.

Playing music is a gift and anyone who can play music very well should be given whatever they need to keep playing music as well as they do. Whether you or your child is a musician or if you are a music teacher yourself, then you understand the importance of music and all that it does. By keeping a room in your home just for music you are helping your musician more than you can imagine.

Elvis Presley – First Exposures to Gospel Music

Filed Under (Piano Lamp Articles) by pana193 on 25-03-2010

Elvis Aron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 as the twin of Jesse Garon Presley born about 35 minutes before Elvis stillborn in East Tupelo, Mississippi. Vernon Presley, father of Elvis, built a home in preparation for the birth. The home was a two-room shotgun style. Out back there was a pump and an outhouse. The home was lit with oil lamps when he and Gladys moved in December of 1934.

When Gladys, Elvis’s mother was twenty years old she took a job at the Tupelo Garment Plant that paid two dollars a day for a twelve-hour workday. She settled herself and her family on Kelly Street in East Tupelo where her uncles lived and had started a First Assembly of God church in a tent on a vacant lot. Gladys met Vernon Presley at a typical spiritual type church service(Guralnick 1994 Last Train to Memphis). I imagine the members of these church services sang and danced praises to God under the anointing of the spirit of God. For those who do not understand this type of worship, it was labeled a holy- roller church. I get the impression from things I heard Elvis say that he truly did not like the church to be called a “holy roller” church and felt this term to be more of a derogatory term than actually describing what went on. The correct terms are spirit of God and the anointing of God. Gladys and Vernon were married in June 1933.

The Presley family was active in church and the community. In 1937 Gladys’ uncle Gains became the only preacher at the Assembly of God Church now housed in a modest wood-framed structure on Adams Street built primarily by Gains. Many in this tiny congregation recall a very young Elvis Presley throwing himself into the hymn singing. Gladys liked to tell how when Elvis was just a little fellow, probably not more than two years old, he would slip down from her lap, make his way down the aisle and up to the platform and stand looking at the choir trying to sing with them. He could carry the tune and would watch their faces to try to do as they did (Guralnick 1994 Last Train to Memphis).

As time went on, Vernon Presley tells of how they had friends and relatives, but the three of them, Elvis, Gladys and Vernon, formed their own private world. There are no memories of Elvis ever belonging to a gang, just memories of him making cars out of apple crates, playing out behind someone’s house, going fishing once in a while. If his mother told him to be back promptly at 2:00 p.m., friends who knew him said he would be sure to return on time. Vernon described Elvis as being a gentle boy and when he asked Elvis to go hunting, Elvis replied, “Daddy, I don’t want to kill birds” (Guralnick 1994 Last Train to Memphis).”

It is pretty much agreed by story tellers that Elvis and his parents formed a gospel trio and sang in the Assembly of God church as well as traveled to various revival meetings in the area to sing and worship God. The travel was not of a professional nature, but more of just visiting churches in the area at revival times. Perhaps the most told story is when Elvis sang “Old Shep,” at the Morning Prayer program at school. He was later entered into a radio talent contest sponsored by local station WELO on Children’s Day at the fair. Elvis spoke of the event as the very first time he sang in public (Guralnick 1994 Last Train to Memphis).

English Pubs – Recreate One at Home

English and Irish pubs are unpretentious places where people can converge, eat a hot meal, and drink tankards of ale or beer. As a pub habitue, you’d want your own personalized pub signs to keep a memento of your visits to famous pubs. No worries, though. There are pubs around where you can carouse with friends and lovers, and enjoy the same olde English atmosphere.

The English Pub

London is famed for its quaint pubs and among the stars are The St. James Tavern, Lamb and Flag, Goat Tavern, and Williams Arms. These are the must-see places for tourists because these have a happy blend of the old and the new. But there are pubs like the Fox and Hounds across England that have retained the Victorian charm with old iron grills, stone fireplaces, and the famous draughts of beer, ale, and cider.

In 1393, pub signs had to be placed outside the home or building, or else those selling beer would be penalized and their beer confiscated. But today, pub signs are advertising come-ons. The pub signs are just as interesting. It’s not strange if you covet them for your personalized pub signs and design your dream bar at home.

You’ll also love the warm stone fireplaces, the vintage bars and the robust pub grub served piping hot, or the bar snacks of pork scratchings (deep-fried pork skins) and peanuts, pickled eggs, and crisps. The pubs are the places to be when you want to be with friends, play dart, dominoes, and skittles, or listen to the music from the ageless piano.

Recreating the English Pub at Home

Can you recreate the English pub right in your own home? Yes! With imagination and resourcefulness, you can bring and English pub to life right in your living room or cellar. It may cost you, but you will be doing away with pricey drinks and the cab fare going home in the wee hours of the morning.

Making your own English pub can be fun and challenging. Before you merrily trot to the hardware, here’s what you should do:

* Decide the place for the bar. It would be best to settle the bar nearest to your fireplace. It’s not only about the look and feel, but a bar near the fireplace can warm your bones during those freezing days and nights while you’re sipping your fiery spirits or beer.

* Measure the dimensions of the designated space to determine seating capacity. Instead of bar stools, get comfortable wooden chairs and a table so you and your friends can sit comfortably.

* Scrounge flea markets for discarded wooden tables and chairs you can refurbish.

* Have a Victorian period look to the grills to place on the walls (for effect).

* Buy all the old candle holders that remind you of old castles.

* Have your coat of arms designed which you can place on the wall in full view of guests to make the ambience more authentic.

For your “opening” night, invite friends over to Shepherd’s pie, sausages, fried mushrooms, and bangers. These are hearty stuff and nice to wash down with Dunkelweiss, hot cider, or Coors that can warm the cockles of your heart.

The Gang’s Here

Welcome your friends to the ambience of an old English pub. The warm glow of the Victorian inspired lamps, a roaring fireplace to ward off the evening chill, and bottomless ale and beer are the things that could delight your friends. A game of darts with soft music in the background will be just perfect for a lazy evening. Recreating your own English pub will give much delight and satisfaction for years to come.

House of Troy Black Plug-in Grand Piano Lamp Review

This light is great for use on a music stand. With two light bulbs, it easily casts light over the entire music stand. I don’t like the blue light that you get from LED lamps. The bulbs that you use in this lamp can be either clear for lots of bright light, or soft for a more subtle light. I personally buy the clear bulbs for my aging eyes.

It is expensive compared to most clip on LED stand lights but you won’t buy another one after you have used this lamp. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I use this lamp on sturdy Manhasset music stands.
